You do realize that the Republican run Congress has shot down many aspects of the Patriot Act this time around, right? I was thrilled to hear enough of them read it this time. You realize also, his spying on private citizens without a warrant is an impeachable offense, right? Then again, so was his lying to go to war with Iraq. Giving up the name of Valerie Plame was treason and a violation of the Intelligence Identites Act, which his own father got passed.

This man is a disaster. This man makes Nixon look like a great President. The number of people who don't care what's going on in this country really scares me.

I could go on for hours, but I won't. Instead, I'll leave you with this quote. (Which I have on a t-shirt.)

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

OK..my only question...how could you stomach chatting with someone who not only isn't into politics but believes they don't affect her???????

I hope you don't mind but I plan on plugging this post on my (now exiled) blog.

You call this woman intelligent - honestly, you were staring at her tits, weren't you. It happens. (Doesn't this like make frogger even hotter - imagine banging her to extacy while she's quoting Chomsky - God I just quiver)
So, what's a little colateral damage to achieve your ends!
Now seriously, Bush does not make Nixon look good - they are two fetid peas in a pod.
Hitler, Bush, Mussolini were all installed in power by the corporate elite because they "made the trains run on time". Union busters all, these demogagic populists.
Special interest groups are the blight on democracy.
And, while Orwell understood, and defined for a generation, the methods of government control of information and execution, he was a strident anarcho-syndicist. You're the second blogger to place him in a context where it seems he is comparable to Hitler et al. It's a quibble, I now, but you know how some things just stick in your craw!
The Right in the US has been funding the Conservatives in Canada since Trudeau took power - oil, trees and WATER!
(Spelling poorly tonight. Scusa!)

Hmmmm you have a point and I rarely try to read or watch anything on polotics especially about Bush as the guy pisses me off and i am trying to feel decent. But I also read Froggers blog which brought me back to this and thanks for the info here. I am so sick of all ts BS ......and they are missing the point altgther. I see Bush as someone who wants to have control and abut half his policies are useltess junk that infirnges on our basic rights. I am not familiar with Rights or lefts or liberals as Frogger and you are however I do know that I want to live my life with the right to be who and what I am in the privacy of my own home. If however that right is taken away or threatened by the very idioot that we voted for or who was installed then I wonder when we became someone besides the United States, and became something else. I mean Buh is pushing for a democratic Middle east and it is looking less and less like a democratic homefront and more and more like a freindly meant takeover by someone in our domestic front. I mean this is not England in the early 1600's and chruch does not run the state (sorry a personal pet peeve there). But the more I listen to Bush the more I hear of our Moral resposibilities, ect. I was almost jumping for joy when that one canidate had a daughter that was Gay I was like wooooooohoooooo someone who into reality. (somewhat) I was still not paying much attention.Sorry if I offend anyone but to be honest I can't afford to get too emeshed in this stuff cause it really carries me away and I will go on for days
anyhoo........this is disturbing. ttyl

Excellent post. I've brought up some of these points before.. sometimes to doe-eyed friends. I think the reason most people do not follow politics, especially after war was declared, is fear. And you point out the facts and scenarios that make them want to keep their head in the sand. This is what the government has counted on for years, yes?

"But when terrorism is called resistance, we all have much to worry about"

--> and honest resistance labelled terrorism, or at least "supporting terrorism"
