Nah, you're no wimp. Just a sane, rational person. The wimps are the ones who can't leave their home without their "protection" (penis extensions more like it).

I live in Pennsylvania (Philly), we have a law that requires a license for the carrying of a concealed firearm, and the carrying of firearms in vehicles, but the law is silent on the legality of openly carrying a firearm in other situations, so making it de-facto legal.

You don't see (or I haven't seen) many people here (other than police officers/military) with firearms, but when I have seen someone with a firearm in a holster, it kinda unnerves me a little. I'm not really sure why-perhaps my thought that they may really just be a nut job and they're gonna pull it out and start shooting. Probably a strange thought or just a sign of the times we live in...but just seems to give me an uncomfortable feeling as well. Guess it's just my paranoia......lol

I guess they want to bring the wild wild west back, no neither one of you are wimps or paranoid, it is a very uncomfortable feeling, , they right to protect oneself is great but I think some have taken it too far, as I was growing up I was always told a bullet does not have a name on it, also if you don't learn from history you will repeat it,

Out here in the west people don't know who is carrying half the time.
I would associate it with living in the woods. You can't get that feeling out
here .If his gun isn't loaded I would assume he's really good at throwing it
at his target.

You're right though they do attract attention.
I wouldn't wear one to the bank or jewelry store and I certainly
wouldn't go up and tap on the glass of the drivers side
of an idling Armored car and ask the driver for the time
if I was wearing one.Just a couple wouldn't for sure.

Using more than all the road!

Only a very small percentage open carry here. They live in fear of something happening that is also relatively rare. But, what is likely to happen if they do happen to be around so crime happening is they will shot the . . . victim.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I prefer concealed carry. No need to advertise. But ya know ... you're free to move someplace ... another state ... where you can feel safer.

I prefer concealed carry as it is less offensive to the general public and I have to say that I do find some people I've seen carrying in an open fashion rather questionable. I don't generally carry on person most of the time though only when I find myself heading into a situation where it might be needed.

I do wonder about the people who think they are fit to be carrying openly as though they are going to act to protect people in a situation. Protecting ones self is one thing but getting involved in a situation that you know nothing about is very dangerous as things are often not as they appear to be.

An uneasy feeling is common around armed citizens from people who aren't used to being around firearms and from people who are wondering how fit the armed citizen is.

seems kind of like wearing a see through shirt and no bra. technically you're dressed but everyone can see your boobs. reeks of insecurity to me. and that usually makes me think nervous.

not so dangerous with boobs.......

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

Well I love the fact that people who have firearm experience are telling you that you shouldn't feel uneasy around guns.
You know what? That is noise.
I am trained in several firearms, but my weapon of choice is a 9 MM.
When I am shooting or working with guns, I am comfortable.
Having said that, open carry would make me feel uncomfortable, too.
Having a gun out in the open is an invitation to the weird or sick to just grab it out of your holster and use it against you or others and they wouldn't even have to spend a dime to hurt other people.

My favorite blogger in vanilla land has a regular column he calls "good guy with a gun" and is all about the idiots who accidentally shoot themselves, shoot others by accident, or get shot by their own kids. And he was a firearm instructor for the navy for 30 years before he retired. He now lives in Florida where he has plenty of material about the dummies who live around there that regularly hurt themselves.
