I have also refused to pay the included gratuity on many occasions when the service was bad. It is easier to do if paying cash.

One time when there was no included gratuity I wrote on the bill, "Your tip: Learn how to deal with your customers in a polite and professional way. Then you will get money for a tip".

That's fucking awesome!!!!! I've only seen the automatic gratuity added when the dining party is over 8 people, never as a general rule! I hate it when they do that but never thought of taking it up with a manager... but then again, I haven't had that shitty service you did either.

So, I'm guessing someone at the office xmas gift exchange party is going to be receiving a restaurant gift card this year?

I swear a lot too and can be pretty blunt at times. I wouldn't have paid an obligatory service charge either...it is mine to give if I wish not part of the bill.

Here tipping isn't mandatory, but a good service
usually brings lots to the proficient and apt waiter
