Rather depends on who is asking. If it is a significant other, the bastard can take you out to an expensive restaurant of your choice and pick up the tab in appreciation of you. If it's kids, they have to learn to fend for themselves at some stage, so tonight may as well be the night!

Right, off to the kitchen to do a steak supper for my young masters... stage two is fast approaching, however!

I literally had to laugh at your post. Whenever my parents come to visit, that's almost the first question my mother will ask at the breakfast table.
(The thought in my head is exactly the same as your's!)
In celebration of Victoria Day weekend, for me, I'm making grilled plank Pacific Sockeye Salmon!
Have a great weekend!

Like someone said, if it's kids, I discuss it with them - and then , we cook together.
Otherwise, going out for some meat shop

Cheers - P

I think your children are old enough to make a big batch of mac n cheese and maybe add some real bacon bits. Bacon can be done in the oven to control spatter and noes one gets burned. Have them serve it with a salad. I am having left over lobster salad

I remember mum telling us; "iffits!" when we asked her what's for tea.
Meaning: "If it's on your plate, you'd better eat it" ....True

Last night I picked up some chicken thighs, boneless, hit them with salt, pepper, chili powder, browned them in a big pan with canola oil, added a cup of rice, a cup of chicken stock, a can of stewed tomatoes and a bottle of taco sauce. After 20 minutes on simmer the rice was a bit chewy, after about 30 minutes it all came together. Was quite good. For added flavour I would first brine the chicken with water, some bay leaves, a bit of salt and some herbs / spices for two hours, and I would toast the rice with a bit of butter. But not necessary. Next time I might shred the chicken for tacos and put a scoop of the tomato rice on the plate.
