A guy on here tried to scam me, we never talk on the phone, just texts, I use a prepaid phone when I give a number until I know the personal is real, but he said he was in army deployed and needed a 100 until he get paid, I wish I had played along with but I busted him, I knew he was a fake. If I never here your voice you out for a scam, he later deleted his account on here, cancel the phone, he use an army soldier's pic and name, I contact the army to let them know that someone was using a soldier profile trying to scam women, this soldier has a young son so it was dangerous to me for this child. if you can't be real about your so call flaws than you don't want to be with someone, no one on this earth is perfect, everyone has their likes and dislikes in a lover, mate or one night stand, but to lie and think someone would be so horny that they would over look the lie is stupid.

More related to photo stealing than other scams, but it drives me crazy when you see a profile often. Folks are on multiple times a week. Yet their pictures are 15+ years old. If they really don't care about meeting anyone new, and only want to chat with friends they have made, that's great. But there are a lot better chat apps than the ones here.

people steal photos to steal money from other people
people steal photos of other people in the hopes of having other people to interact with
in both cases they do not intend in a face to face meet with people

to prevent getting involved with someone i may never meet i insist on a cam chat before i get involved.
cams are not only for sex. they are very good at revealing what the person looks like

there is a world of difference between insanity and stupidity

If I put a single word to it - that word would be selfishness.

Someone using their 20 (Or more) year-old picture - If they have no intention of ever meeting anyone, and they make that clear and up front to everyone - AND they display their true age - then that can a little more innocuous. If they make it clear just how old that picture is, then that's completely innocuous. That person in that past picture? That's a part of them too.

There are a multitude of reasons why people misrepresent themselves here. Albeit, more than most are trying to deceive people into money, gain access to a green card, or looking for someone to take care of them. (Why else would a hot 25 year old contact an older, fat guy? LO I like the comments you have received so far and it is obvious they have been subjected to the same BS most of us have. I've been here since 2004 and I think I've seem just about everything...

It sucks when you see the person in real time and they look nothing like their pics. Case in point. About 10 years ago, I had been talking with a gal whose picture was that of a girl next door. we hit it off and played around online a little bit. When we finally met face to face, I discovered the pic she used WAS the girl next door!! Major buzz kill. So it happens to guys as well as your beautiful ladies.

One gal said it best: "You'll have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find the prince..."

And for the record, I date my photos because I believe in truth in advertising. LOL

    Quoting  :

A scam isn't always about money - it is about gain. Whatever the scammer happens to want to gain. What makes it a scam is the use of lies, deception, and deceit to attempt the gain.

And when you consider that - yes, there are all kinds of scammers on here. I'd bet there's a hundred times more scamming for sex on here - than any other kind of scamming present.

I presume (just as in retail sales) the goal is simply to attract an interested party into the store. After that... they're hopeful that things will unfold.
I've been disappointed.. more than once... to say the least.
Low self esteem will do that, right? If they would have posted their REAL pics... I wouldn't have paused.

I am late to this discussion, but I have had enough experiences with scammers that they are easy to weed out with minimal waste of time. Except to learn that two women I met on separate occasions were wanting a "Sugar Daddy", I have never had anyone grossly misrepresent themselves. I try to take my time in vetting potential partners.
