I think it's importent to pick one or two things out of a women's profile that catch your eye and throw those back at her with some follow up questions/comments. This kinda gives you as starting point for conversation. You've got to tailor your response to their profile. If they are subtle in their profile I'm subtle in dialogue. And of course if they are more blunt then the same type of response is appropriate. And for goodness sake ladies "just looking" - for what? marriage, sex, or something in between. Finally I always ask for a response even if it's no, just so I know the message made it.

(Even if a ball player hits .300, he failure rate is more than 2 out of 3)

Variety keeps me interested, not the mundane. Like you, messages can only go so far with me before I get bored. If there's no progression toward meeting or little variety in the topics we discuss, my interest quickly dissipates.

To the guys who state they're 'nice and polite' in their messages, I'm curious to see real examples of the messages you send. I'm not trying to call you out, but understand there is a difference between nice/polite and...boring and unimaginative...the mundane. Nice/polite = good; boring/unimaginative = not good. What should interest someone (male or female) to interact with a nice, but boring person?

If women respond, how do I avoid triteness or small talk?
-There is a blogger here who offers very useful information on avoiding trite small talk, plus a host of other tips. You can read her entire blog here... VenusRedux2 ..., and you can start with these posts ( How to get that critical first response, Priorities in the Conversation and Conversational Autopilot ) to address your specific question.

Apologies, NeedOptions, don't want to overstep my boundaries on your blog. I just think Venus' posts are extremely helpful to men (and women) overcome the challenges of online interaction.

Of course every woman is unique, but a wide ranges of answers would definitely be a must read.
