It's a great idea. However, (and not to sound like a naysayer) it probably won't work like you hope it would. Perhaps if you kept it local and the membership numbers low, then you might have a chance. I say all of this because you cannot control how other people behave. So I'd question how you would ensure people use your site as you intended? What methods would you put in place to handle the members who are (proven to be) disrespectful to others? There's a lot of questions you'd need to answer and account for the logistics of managing a site with an abundance of people.

I'm sure creators of sites like these didn't envision what they'd become over time. They probably had the same idea you do. It's not necessarily these site's fault that their members act the way they do; it's all around us in society...some good, some bad. But hey, if you can truly make it work...good on you!

Last year I was looking at my local newspaper, an item advertising a 'singles' night. The sad thing was, it had an age limit, something like 25-45. Seemed daft to me to exclude so many people who find themselves single later in life, and hard to socialise.
So, I'd consider having a really good website that also included local meeting place. The group I mention did have a venue, but when I looked at the venue Site, it was pretty poor, and didn't appeal either.
If I was serious about meeting locals again, I'd go back to POF.....who also have local events.

Good luck with it.....
