Personally, I think it's not what's said...it's how it's said. I have no problem with my family/friends telling me what I need to hear, even if I might not like it in that moment. I know they're telling me because they care, and they'll tell me in a constructive manner. If they didn't give a shit they wouldn't say anything.

I'm reminded of a saying, "You should always tell the truth, just don't always be telling it."

Well said, honesty is the best policy but sometimes you have to FILTER it..
