Have we forgotten Gilroy already?

Yesterday, I got an email from a state representative whose mailing list I'm on. In it, among other things, he mentioned the shootings in El Paso and Dayton. There has been talk of that, and I've even seen those two cities mentioned here. But what about the shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy? Three people died because of that shooter, and even the state representative within my own state didn't bother to mention Gilroy along with El Paso and Dayton.

So even if he can't be bothered to mention Gilroy, I can. The shooter killed himself but still, three innocent people died because of him, and many more are traumatized, including three who happened to be at the Las Vegas event where there was a man sniping at the crowd from his hotel room. We remember that too, I hope. Although it has been two years. But for Gilroy, only two weeks. So let's keep Gilroy in our thoughts for a little bit longer.
A poll for standard members about the IM change

So we know standards no longer get 3 free IMs a day to send, and now you have to spend points to send.

However do you spend/lose points if you receive IMs?

IF and only if you're a Standard member, please vote. There is one option for Golds who want to vote but really, this isn't your circus.
Female Standard Member - I lose points if I answer an IM
Female Standard Member - I don't lose points if I answer an IM
Male Standard member - I lose points if I answer an IM
Male Standard member - I don't lose points if I answer an IM
T/NB/Couple Standard member - I lose points if I answer an IM
T/NB/Couple Standard member - I don't lose points if I answer an IM
I'm a Gold member who just has to vote for some reason

How long does it take you to come?

Polls are fun to set up and I don't remember seeing this particular one being done.

So what's the typical a m o u n t of time it takes you to h i t the big O, by whatever the most effective method for you is?

AND DAMN, wish I could put more than options. Even a d o z e n would've helped. Anyway, of course some people are suffering from the side effects of prescriptions they have to take, or perhaps old injuries, physical or mental, might affect the time it takes for someone to . But I don't have enough options to break down by age brackets, or even non-binary/trans people, and this is not srs science anyway. Feel free to comment if you'd like to elaborate.

EDITED TO ADD: No more comments will be allowed. They're repeating themselves at this point. However, you're welcome to vote if you haven't already.
Female - less than 5 minutes
Female - 5 to 15 minutes
Female - 15 to 45 minutes
Female - more than 45 minutes
Female - I never/rarely come
Male - less than 5 minutes
Male - 5 to 15 minutes
Male - 15 to 45 minutes
Male - more than 45 minutes
Male - I never/rarely come

Stupid Sexy Romans!

So, we have some sexual words that come from Latin. Penis. Vagina. Not clitoris, though, that's from Greek. Cunnilingus. What else? Copulation.

However, if you went back in time some 2000 , you'd find the average Roman used significantly different vocabulary for these concepts.

They would have used mentula or verpa for the male organ. Or pipinna, if you wanted to use something equivalently cutesy to "pee-pee." Penis simply meant tail.

Vagina was a sheath for one's sword. However, you can probably easily guess what the word cunnus means.

For the Romans, a cunnilingus was the person who licked a woman's vulva, not the action itself.

Copulation simply meant a joining, such as in marriage. About 1500 years would to pass before it became a euphemistic term for having sex.

The ancient Romans were not shy about frankly mentioning sexual things. Poets such as Ovid and Catullus really let it all hang out. It's thanks to them, plus all the graffiti writers, that we are able to get an idea of how the Romans spoke about sexual matters.

For some reason, the last day of the old year always kind of gets me right here (fist over chest).

Cheers and a hearty welcome to 2019!

always write posts directly in AFF text box
mostly write in AFF text box but occasionally in a text editor
evenly split between AFF text box and text editor
mostly write in text editor but occasionally in AFF text box
always write in text editor then C&P into AFF

Why ya bustin' my chops lately, Captcha?

You're making it a real ordeal to log on lately, Captcha, and it's pissing me the fuck off. I shouldn't have to click through 6 or 7 pages of tiled images just to log in. Nor should I have to decide if that vaguely streetlight-shaped thing in the distance is a traffic light or not. Don't do that distance shot crap!
Dating = serious?

So I was chatting online with a man yesterday evening, and he kept asking me if I was looking for "something serious". I asked him what "serious" meant and he said "If you want to date, that's serious." Really?

I said that dating was a way to get to know someone or just spend time doing fun things. Hell, eating a good meal at a restaurant is enjoyable, especially with a glass or two of good wine. But apparently he considers dating srs bzns. I told him dating was just a fun thing to do and "serious" kicks in when two people decide to make some kind of a commitment to each other. He disagreed with me, and the conversation trailed off.

Who thinks that dating is nothing serious in itself and who considers dating a serious thing? When do you consider things to be serious?
