Shopping at Fiorucci

My two favorite clothing boutiques to shop at while living in the city.

Back in the late 70's early 80's I got so caught up in the New Wave / Punky scene in NYC. The two stores I truly loved was Fiorucci and Trash & Vaudeville.

This post is all about Fiorucci - Store was located on 59th Street in NYC. The store had a sales staff that would wear the clothes dancing around the store. It was like going to a club, but you're really buying clothes. Most people wouldn't be caught dead in the store. It was so me... Loved it!

Just did an internet search on it. Here's part of the story:

Once So Hot!

JACKIE O., Cher and Elizabeth Taylor shopped there; Andy Warhol was a regular; Truman Capote signed books in the window; and Joey Arias, the flamboyant performance artist, liked the slippery floors. ''They were perfect for sliding across to catch shoplifters,'' he said.

For those who weren't born or were living under a rock from 1976 to 1984, that was Fiorucci, the New York department store credited with starting everything from designer jeans to Madonna's career. On East 59th Street near Bloomingdale's, Fiorucci was known as the ''daytime Studio 54'' because of all the revelers sipping espresso and trading party itineraries during their pre-soirée hours.

Elio Fiorucci founded the company in Italy in the 1960's, importing the styles of swinging London from Carnaby Street. The New York branch had D.J.'s decades before turntables became routine at mall stores. It offered skintight, glittery club clothes to the masses long before the Limited and H&M.

Here's also a youtube video on Fiorucci. I don't think the link will post on the page. Here's the address cut & paste it whenever on Youtube. Check it out. These days You're in for a good laugh.

The Himalaya that is...

One of my favorite rides during the 70's & 80's.

The ride was fast and music was loud. Playing mostly RnR.

Hanging out on the beach today by the Steel Pier.

The Steel Pier is a 1,000-foot-long amusement pier in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Built in 1898, it has been one of the most popular entertainment venues in the United States for the first seven decades of the twentieth century, with concerts, exhibits, and an amusement park.

Photo is of the pier in 1915
Looked so much nicer way-back-when.

Up early and getting ready to start my day.

Already showered, dressed, sipping coffee while responding to emails on my laptop.

Have the news on the television (6ABC). As the weather just came on, it made me look up. They mentioned "mild temps in the mid 60's.

Not bad temps for Jan 12th

It's going to be that type of day to have lunch outside and spend lots of time on the Atlantic City Beach & Boardwalk.

Whatever plans you have for today, make it a great one.

Question for you techy folks. Is there an easy way to pull the very last frame from my video that's on my profile? I'd like to use it as a photo.

This does not have anything to do with the Government or Politics...

For 27 years, I lived in an area called Fairfax County, VA. Looking back in time, it was one of the best places I've ever lived.

I love History so being close to DC, MD and Living in Northern VA I made the best use of time to visit as many places as I could.

Living in that area was such a great place to live/work making big $$$ at an early age.

Moving to the area in '84, each year I saw the beltway area in MD, DC & VA grow more & more. The bad economy never really hit that area like it did in many other parts of the US.

The area offered everything I've ever needed, Great employment, Great places to live, Great restaurants, shopping, entertainment etc...

For the 27 years my only complaint was the traffic. If you ever had to take the 495 beltway, you know what I'm talking about.

You could be sitting in traffic in an area called Tysons Corner (Rt 7) for 30 minutes when only going a few miles.

Every place I lived I did for reasons. Now I live at the beach which was also on my bucket list.

Throughout your life is there any place you lived that really stands out where you've loved everything about it?

For those interested - I just created a Group under the Music Section. This is my first time. Thinking I'll give it a go..

If you were into the music scene in the 80's, this may be a fun place to interact...

Those Eighties

In the 80's we had some awesome bands. The music scene of Power Pop, New Wave, Punk and the Hair bands. The Fashions were Hot! The Clubs, Clothing Boutiques, and let's not forget the start of MTV

I always wanted to live at the Jersey Shore. I'm doing it ...but not for Winter weather.

Not being a fan of the cold temps. This weather makes me think back some years ago while working in an office and having a pizza delivered for lunch. Heck if I'm going out in the snow with temps around single digits...

What should be a work day for me this Saturday was such a pleasure to receive a call early this morning saying no work today. YAY!

If you have to go out in bad snowy weather. I'll be thinking of you. Please be safe!

The Hideaway South - Closed!

Back in 2011 - The Hideaway South in the Northern VA / DC area has closed.

Hello I'm Holly, I was your host at the Hideaway South. This was more-or-less an outdoor cafe that was LGBT friendly. It was a great place to meet people from all walks of life in the Washington, DC area. Opened in 2009 and closed in 2011

The Hideaway South became known as one of the best places to watch Rock music videos from the 70's & 80's with an awesome sound system. It was open just about every Friday & Saturday from 6pm to 2am.

It was the type of place where you can bring your own food and cook it on one of the grills on the property. Everyone seemed to get along so well. I truly miss everyone that passed through the doors.

In 2011, I moved out of the DC area and moved to the Jersey Shore.

Here we are now in 2017. I really miss those times....

1979 thru 1984 I lived at 2350 Broadway in NYC. The building is called Bretton Hall. Living in a one bedroom apartment I paid $680 per month. My last year there I was paying $720 per month.

Just before posting this I did a search to see what NYC rents are going for. My same one bedroom apt is now well over 3K per month.

Since those days I bought at least five different homes. My mortgage was never near what they get for NYC rents.

I love New York But...

OK - The next couple of days are going to be a bit rainy. I moved out of the DC / VA area back in 2011 and moved to Atlantic City, NJ. Now that it's five to six years later, I think I finally go through paperwork of unopened boxes.

If it sounds exciting ...it's not!

Have a great day everyone!
