**+ I was so happy

I was entering the local Dunkin Donuts yesterday and saw a disturbance in the parking lot involving two Police Officers and a person in military uniform. Many of you know that I live near a military base here in New Jersey and people in uniform are very common in town. It turns out that this fellow had been in the Donut shop DEMANDING a military discount . It turned out that he was confronted by a Senior Non Commissioned Officer ( Senior Master Sergeant ) for this behavior . The long and the short was that he determined that that person was impersonating a Military Member (I have written in the past about a similar incident not involving this person). The police were called and the man was arrested under The Stolen Valor Act of 2013 (Pub.L. 113–12; H.R. 25 .

The Stolen Valor Act of 2013 (Pub.L. 113–12; H.R. 25 is a United States federal law that was passed by the 113th United States Congress. The law amends the federal criminal code to make it a crime for a person to fraudulently claim having received any of a series of particular military decorations with the intention of obtaining money, property, or other tangible benefit from convincing someone that he or she rightfully did receive that award. This law is a revised version of a previous one that was struck down by the Supreme Court of the United States in the case United States v. Alvarez for being an infringement of the constitutional right to freedom of speech.

It is such an insult to current and former Military members and people with a sense of decency! I hope there is a similar law in most countries. I would encourage you to report any similar instances that you may witness

I would be more than happy to call-out those liars but ... how would I (an ignorant civilian) know that they're fake? Are there easy and simple clues for someone not familiar with military insignia?

Around here, my odds are good but the goods are odd

This just disturbs me so much, I don't understand why people try to impersonate our military. I am glad that they found out the truth and I hope he gets reprimanded for this behavior as it's so WRONG!!!

Just your average every day run of the mill nana here!!!

Wow Pal that happened in the States. Well done. Some idiot did the same thing two years ago on the 11 November. He was stupid enough to get himself on tv which is what the eyes of other veterans. He was charged and ended up behind bars for a while. Idiot had his medals wrong and too many other shiny pieces didn't match. Good to see somethings are done about people like this. Hugs V

A couple quick clues, it they are mounted at an angle on the uniform, or anything is attached to the flaps of the lower pockets

Some of the quick clues are what I commented to Super on. A dirty uniform is also a clue

No reprimand for him. The law requires jail time, probably 30 days to six months

The good thing is it is jail time, better than enforced volunteer work
