~~~ Were you Home Schooled like me?
I was thinking about the way I was raised. My parents kept things simple and direct. I was always amazed at the insight that my Mother had. Was life simpler way back then? There were no "helicopter" parents. We were given the outlines of behavior and when we failed to follow the rules there was always some sort consequence guaranteed. How was your childhood? If yours was similar to mine, do you think their "up bringing" was good for you? Here are examples of what I went through
My mother taught me about BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION .
"Stop acting like your father!"
My mother taught me about ENVY.
"There are millions of less fortunate in This world who don't have wonderful parents like you do."
My mother taught me about ANTICIPATION.
"Just wait until we get home."
My mother taught me about RECEIVING.
"You are going to get it from your father When you get home!"
My mother taught me ESP.
"Put your sweater on; don't you think I know When you are cold?"
My father taught me HUMOR.
"When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, Don't come running to me."
My mother taught me about my ROOTS.
"Shut that door behind you. Do you think you were born in a barn?"
Even TV watching was different, mostly a family thing and very few channels. [image]
Very similar to yours Pal. I think life back then was way easier then it is too today. There are too many choices we have. Back then it was a yes and no and we didn't have much money to spend either. Sounds like good advise here. hugss V
My parents had a few rules but one piece of advice they passed onto me was to treat people as you want people to treat me. My Dad also advised me to 'treat them mean, keep them keen' when it comes to dating!
LOL...I remember some of those comments! I caught myself several times using them with my daughter!
I know that rule book!
Telling time was different then, too. I just had to be home when the street lights came on.
Around here, my odds are good but the goods are odd
