After all the years of being on here the flaw I love and loathe in equal measure is 'Aldershot'.
For those not familiar with the geography of southern England Aldershot was once the proud home of the British Army. How do I know this? Well the town sign on the road in said 'Home of the British Army'. Anyway the army in numbers left years ago leaving behind a town that looks like its largest employer has closed.
For some reason that only the site owners might be able to explain when someone creates a profile and does not enter their place of residence the site defaults to the town at the top of the alphabetically ordered pick list - Aldershot. So there are hundreds of profiles where the person would appear to live there.
I'm not certain if the same glitch on Meelp operates elsewhere in the world - Billancourt in France seems a popular place and after all B is close to the start of the alphabet.
Anyway the illusion that just 8 miles down the road was a town populated by so many women looking for sex has, like the British Army, long since gone.

I love the absurdity of Meelp.
Those that write 'I don't respond to cock-shots' whilst showing their own naked anatomy.
Those that say "I'm of athletic build' when clearly the only athlete they have seen recently is a field athlete, either male or female, from a former Soviet republic.
Then there's those that promise the world but only want to amass a collection of 'friends'.
And then there's IM. A messaging system whose initials might stand for either Impossible Matches or I'm Masturbating. Oh well all life is here.
Yes absurd and probably a cash generator on a scale that would make me weep.

Seriously, how difficult can it be to avoid scammers?
If the town or city given is 100s of miles away from the County/State location there's every chance it's a fake - especially if the profile image is to good to be true.
The only exception to this I believe is the Meelp glitch which enables profiles to be created without a town but the underlying database applies 'Aldershot' in the UK as the location.
Believe me Aldershot is not where horny super models live.

I've always been very doubtful of some of the claims that the owners of this site make about active profiles. I was going to write 'members' but it sounded plain wrong...
So can anyone explain how my previous post dated 3/1, or if you are reading this on the opposite side of the Atlantic 1/3, has been viewed by the grand total of 5 people and yet it's showing 143 views?
Now the subject mater might be interesting (it's not) so I can't think the five people whose profile names are listed as having read the post have each read it 30 times...

So the site owners have recently added a new feature in Search 'Hot or Not'. If you've not seen it the idea being that a parade of profile pictures is presented to you. If you click on an image the person's profile is added to your Hotlist. Simple really.
What they didn't think through is as there are so many inactive profiles that remain on the site all you end-up doing is adding people to your Hotlist who have not accessed the site for more than 3 months...

Friends, Romans, Countrymen (and women). The keen eyed blog readers amongst you might have noticed the maelstrom of comments that resulted from the blog update that 'Andrew' the site's owner posted recently. Here's the link if you didn't see it [post 3468116]y.
All this has done is further expose what a pile of junk this site is and the complete ineptitude of those running it.

Over the last few months I think it's fair to say that Meelp has been dying, slowly and painfully. It was always a shunky site but at least the membership numbers seemed to hold-up. Now it seems that the world has moved on and the owner of the site is both deaf and blind to what's happening or is in denial that anything is wrong.
Well my cyber friends if you read this and my profile disappears you know that I too am headed for the exit...
